GENERAL FISHING RULES
1. Fishing and car parking at anglers' own risk.
2. Members must be in possession of a current Environment Agency Rod Licence. All EA rules apply.
3. The fishing season is stated in individual water rules.
4. Maximum of 2 rods per person allowed (3 Rods on Astbury).
5. Juvenile members under the age of 14 years are only allowed to fish when accompanied by an adult. Juvenile members are only allowed to night fish if they are accompanied by a member who is their parent/legal guardian or by a member over the age of 18 years who holds in loco parentis responsibility for them during their stay on the water; the member must fish the adjacent swim. A person must be a minimum of 12 years of age on the 1st January to be a Juvenile member and must be 16 to become a senior member.
6. A member may, during the daytime, be accompanied by his/her children who are under the age for juvenile membership if they fish the same peg as himself/herself. Members must NOT be accompanied by a non-fishing person unless in possession of a Non Fishing Guest Permit.
7. No member to leave his/her rods unattended with lines cast in or with baited hooks.
8. Any member who leaves his/her swim for more than one hour must vacate it - Members are not allowed to reserve swims. If a member wishes to relocate to a new swim he/she must deposit substantial items at the new swim whilst he/she collects the rest of his/her tackle without delay
9. No member to encroach within 15 yards of another member's swim unless by mutual consent.
10. No member is to fish more than half the distance between themselves and a member on the opposite bank.
11. No swimming, no wading beyond thigh depth. No boats or floating aids to be used for baiting swims.
12. The use of un-hooking mats is compulsory where specimen fish are the quarry of the angler.
13. Members must not use treble hooks except for Perch and Pike fishing. Long shanked hooks are not allowed on any Society water, however, caster hooks are aloowed.
14. No fish to be removed from any water unless a written authority has been issued by the Fishery Manager.
15. Anglers must use 12 lb minimum breaking strain line and minimum 20 lb trace wire when fishing for pike.
16. Anglers must use line of 8 lb minimum breaking strain and 20 lb minimum shock leaders when fishing for specimen carp. Please note - if the lead is over 2.5oz, the shock leader must be a minimum of 8lb for each 1oz of lead used - ie, 3oz lead requires 24lm minimum shock leader.
17. Specimen fish must not be retained in sacks.
18. Fish must not be kept out of water for photographic purposes for longer than is absolutely necessary. They must then be released to the water and not retained in a keep net or sack.
19. Anglers are not permitted to use the same swim for more than 48 hours. Return to this swim is prohibited for the next 72 hours. Swopping of swims in any form is strictly prohibited.
20. No fires and no bad language.
21. No radios, TVS or any other electronic devices for producing sound for entertainment purposes to be used by the waters.
22. Pegs must be kept clear of litter at all times. All litter, including any waste line, must be taken away from the fisheries; under no circumstances is it to be left in litterbins, which may exist, on the estates.
23. Birds, their nests and eggs, or any other wildlife must not be interfered with or disturbed in any way.
24. Members must not cut or remove trees, bushes or marginal water plants.
25. All gates are to be closed; fences and hedges are not to be damaged.
26. A water is closed from midnight on the day of a match until the match terminates. All matches fished to NFA rules, however, the Match Organiser may at his/her discretion allow an angler, who has a serious health problem, to draw a peg from a selection of 10 pegs chosen to provide good access.
27. Members are not allowed on any waters during the relevant close season unless on official business.
28. Trophies to be returned in a clean condition by March meeting.
29. Members must carry their membership card when a) on any of our waters and produce it to any other member or bailiff or representative of the owner of the water b) when attending the AGM.
30. Any angler fishing as a Guest must be in possession of a Guest Permit.
31. All accidents or contravention of Rules to be reported to the Secretary immediately.
32. A good relationship exists between our Society and the Sailing Clubs, which share the waters; do not damage this relationship.
33. All our waters are looked after very carefully and we have a planned fishery management policy for each water. To carry out this policy a great deal of work is carried out during the closed season. Every member will be expected to carry out a work party if called upon by the Management Committee.
34. Members are encouraged to send in catch returns for all waters.
35. Any member who violates the Rules will be called before the Disciplinary Committee.
36. Any member who wishes to carry out work parties in order to qualify for a work party pass must register by the second Thursday in February using the tear out form included in their membership ticket.
37. No smoking will be allowed in any meeting room from the time the room is occupied until the Chairman declares the meeting closed.
ADDITIONAL RULES APPLICABLE AT SPECIFIC WATERS
REDESMERE
1. The season is from 1 June (15th June for those who have not attended work parties) to 31 March. The draw for swims for the 1June will take place at lOam, 25 May at Redesmere layby.
2. Members are only allowed on the water during the following times: June 0400-2230; July 0430-2200. Aug 0500-2115; Sept 0600-2000; Oct 0700-1800; Nov 0700-1700; Dec 0800-1600; Jan 0730-1700: Feb 0700-1800; Mar 0600-1900. Members wishing to fish at other times MUST be in possession of a Night Permit.
3. No dogs allowed.
4. There is no access from the Meadow to White Cottage bay or vice versa by water or land.
5. The wood at the shallow end of the mere is out hounds to all members.
6. Members are not allowed to pre bait in the closed season.
7. No ledger or weight in excess of 3 1/2 oz is allowed
8. During Sailing Club races no legers are to be cast in the direction of the boats and all marker floats are to be lowered.
9. Members must not wade into the Sailing Club Frontage.
CAPESTHORNE MAIN POOL
1. The season is from 1 June (15th June for those who have not attended work parties) to 31 March.
No fishing on 30 June.
2. No fishing or baiting up from the bridge.
3. No dogs, 'bivvies' or camping stoves allowed.
4. No footpaths to be obstructed by rods or other equipment.
5. Members are only allowed on the Estate during the following times: June 04:00-22:30; July 04:30-22:00; Aug 05:00-21:15; Sept 06:00-20:00; Oct 07:00-18:00; Nov 07:00-17:00; Dec 08:00-16:00; Jan 07:30-17:00; Feb 07:00-18:00; Mar 06:00-19:00.
6. No leger / weight in excess of 1.5 oz is allowed.
7. Members should ensure that they are aware of any bait restrictions which are in force; these will be displayed at the car park exit.
8. Members must only park their cars in the designated car park; they must not park elsewhere while unloading
9. Members must use the toilet provided.
10. SAFETY RULE. No leger is to be cast in the direction of the bridge except from the pegs on the dam; anglers on the dam must not cast more than half the distance between themselves and the bridge.
CAPESTHORNE TOP POOL
1. The season is from 1 June (15th June for those who have not attended work parties) to 31 March. The woods are closed from 1 Oct to 31 March.
2. No dogs allowed.
3. Members are only allowed on the Estate during the following times: June 04:00-22:30; July 04:30-22:00; Aug 05:00-21:15; Sept 06:00-20:00; Oct 07:00-18:00; Nov 07:00-17:00; Dec 08:00-16:00; Jan 07:30-17:00; Feb 07:00-18:00; Mar 06:00-19:00.
4. Members fishing at other times MUST be in possession of a Night Permit and they MUST NOT move away from the perimeter of the Top Pool. Their vehicles MUST NOT be parked on the Estate but may be parked on the Redesmere shallows car park. Access is only allowed on foot by the footpath from the main road.
5. No leger / weight in excess of 1.5 oz is allowed.
6. Members should ensure that they are aware of any bait restrictions which are in force; these will be displayed at the car park exit.
7. Members must only park their cars in the designated car park; they must not park elsewhere while unloading
8. During daylight hours members must use the toilet provided.
ELLENHALL POOLS
Pools 1-4 & 6-11; Mr C D Edwards, Ellenhall Park Farm:-
Pool 5; Mr A Myatt:- Ellenhall, near Eccleshall, Staffs.
1. The season is from 1 January to 31 December.
2. No night fishing. Anglers are not allowed on the Estates prior to dawn and must be off the Estates by dusk.
3. The Estates will be closed to anglers for 2 days in the Autumn; notices will be displayed.
4. Cars must be parked in the designated areas; lanes must not be obstructed.
5. Keep strictly to pathways; do not damage crops.
6. No dogs allowed.
Pools 10 & 11 will be named the Broadgate Pools.
BEWARE OVERHEAD ELECTRIC POWER LINES
FANSHAWE LANE POOL
1. The season is from 1 January to 31 December.
2. Only one rod to be used.
3. No night fishing.
4. No dogs allowed.
5. No boillies to be used.
6. Gate must be kept closed.
7. No fishing in marked restricted area.
8. Maximum 20 anglers allowed at any time.
9. Only barbless hooks to be used
Access via public footpath then follow arrow. Do not walk diagonally across the field.
BEWARE OVERHEAD ELECTRIC POWER LINES
HORSEBRIDGE POOL
1. The season is from 1 January to 31 December.
2. No poles over 4 metres to be used
3. No night fishing
4. No Juvenile members allowed to fish unless accompanied by an adult.
5. Access only via the car park gate
6. Parking in fenced off area by the pool. Do not park on the road.
BEWARE OVERHEAD ELECTRIC POWER LINES
RIVER DOVE
Mr C & Mr D Tabinor, Fauld Cottage Farm, Fauld, Tutbury, Burton-on-Trent.
Lengths A-B and C- D, right hand bank downstream.
Directions: Take A50 from Stoke to Sudbury. At a large roundabout turn right onto A515. After 1.6 miles turn left to Coton in the Clay, after 2.6 miles White Cottage on left. Turn left down lane to farm and follow signs. Additional parking prior to White Cottage at gate/verge.
Mr A Smith, Riverside Farm, Scropton, Burton-on-Trent.
Length E-F, left hand bank downstream.
Directions: As above, turn right onto A515. After 0.1 miles turn left to Scropton, after 1.8 miles turn right over railway crossing. Park in paddock or lane near farm.
1. The season is from 16 June to 14 March, however, fishing for trout in accordance with EA rules is also allowed 15 March to 15 June.
2. Only 1 rod to be used between sunset and sunrise.
Members are advised never to leave their car in a field containing cattle.
BEWARE OVERHEAD ELECTRIC POWER LINES
RIVER SOW
1. The season is from 16 June to 14 March.
2. No dogs allowed
3. Only 1 rod to be used between sunset and sunrise.
4. Parking on Whitegreave Lane, and within field by way of farm gates next to garage and over river bridge. Keep track clear. No parking at farm. Access to river over stile on A5013 and through farm gates and through fence upstream of bridge.
Members are advised not to leave their car in a field containing cattle.
BEWARE OVERHEAD ELECTRIC POWER LINES
RUDYARD RESERVIOR
1.The season is from 1 January to 31 December.
2. Fishing is from dawn to dusk.
3. Night fishing predominantly for Carp will be allowed during the months of May, June, July & August by those members possessing a Night Permit. They MUST pre book with the Ranger, John Davey, 01538 306280 as only 6 anglers will be allowed at any one time. Night fishing for pike is not allowed.
4. Society Membership entitles you to use 2 rods only. Up to 2 extra rods can be used if the relevant fee is paid to the Ranger and relevant rod licences are held.
5. All vehicles to be sensibly parked. Parking on the railway side for cars using the Rushton Spencer access is free, however, parking at the Dam is Pay and Display.
6. Day tickets are issued on this water by the Ranger. Non Fishing Guest Permits are not required.
7. No fishing is allowed in the conservation area at the north end of the lake.
KNYPERSELY RESERVOIR
1.The season is from 1 January to 31 December.
2. No night fishing (but see rule 10).
3. No live baiting and no gorge tackle allowed.
4. No cans or bottles (glass and plastic).
5. No unused bait to be thrown on the bank or in the water.
6. No carp or pike to be retained in a keepnet except in matches.
7. No match or Competition to be held unless prebooked via the Associations Match Secretary.
8. Any Angler in breach of these rules will automatically lose the right to fish any of the member clubs water for the duration of the suspension.
9. Members may take Juveniles under the age of 10 years to fish the Association Waters.
10. Work Parties have been arranged for 17/18th April and 5/6 June; the water will be closed for angling on these dates. A member who attends one of these work parties for the Society will be allowed to night fish this water between 8th August and 5th September 2004 inclusive. Please advise the Societys Work Party Organiser (Paul Smith) if you wish to attend one of these Work Parties.
The member may assume that if there are no water specific rules listed here, that the general fishing rules are applicable, but all members are required to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to upholding the good name of the society.
