This newly acquired water (2002/3 season) is the ‘jewel’ in the Society’s ‘crown’. Like all of the Society’s waters on the Capesthorne Estate the Stock Pond is situated in extremely picturesque surroundings providing the angler with a very peaceful and relaxed environment. The water is surrounded around most of its perimeter by established trees and shrubs and offers good disabled access to swims.

The one-acre water provides the angler with excellent features from every peg; huge beds of lily pads during summer months along with established beds of marginal sedges offering excellent opportunities close in. Depths vary between one and three feet (0.3 to 0.9 metres).

Species & Stocking

The water contains carp, crucian carp, roach, rudd and tench. The water was stocked by the Society in 1998 prior to current control with crucians, tench, rudd and roach, all adding to the abundant stocks of carp.

With several year groups of each species present the water will act as a perfect ‘nursery’ for the Society allowing the growing-on and periodic removal of fish to other waters on the estate, whilst of course providing a settled natural balance of species for the Stock Pond itself.

Common carp to 6lb; averaging 8oz - 2lb
Mirror carp to 8lb; averaging 8oz - 3lb.
Crucian carp to 1lb 8oz; averaging 8oz - 10oz
Roach to 1lb; averaging 4oz - 10oz
Rudd to 1lb; averaging 4oz – 10oz
Tench to 3lb; averaging 1lb – 2lb

Tactics and Tips

Capesthorne Stock Pond is a must for the novice angler providing constant sport on almost any method. The water proves popular with pole anglers though ledger tactics prove just as fruitful for the larger carp. Surface fishing also proves effective for carp in the warmer months.

The venue is highly productive all year-round, and as such is classed as ‘easy’.
