06-01-04 ~ Snowy Sessions On The Sow
Society member Alan Price has just taken proud possession of a digital camera and has put it to good use taking pictures on the Sow. Alan feels that the Sow is a cracking river, which apart from the Mill Pool area, many members seem to miss out on. All the fish pictured below were taken during pretty miserable conditions through December and just after Christmas
Alan goes on to explain that during winter the water actually tends to shallow up without the weed to hold it back and is crystal clear, only colouring up after heavy rain and if you spend time will be amazed at the size of some of the fish that drift past.
Pictures show; 2lb 3oz perch caught by Allan Fyer, and also in the snow with a nice chub. The 3lb 12oz chub on the net was banked by Alan Price just after Christmas in Snowy conditions.

06-01-04 ~ Method Gives Winter Stock Pond Success
Oliver Cleaver and Edward Wood have been having great success on Capesthorne Stock Pond of late; they recently spent a day on the water and caught a tremendous weight of mixed carp weighing in at 34lb 10oz.
Most of the fish fell to method feeder and pellets although they tell me that fishing the pole with sweetcorn also proves extremely effective.
12-02-04 ~ Stock Pond
Keith Nicholl made contact to tell me about the continuing popularity of Capesthorne Stock Pond; Keith made several visits during January catching well on each occasion. The picture below shows a catch of small carp Keith took during the last weekend of January on the Stock Pond; all the fish were taken in 14 inches of water on corn fished over pellet. Keith also informed me that the week previous the water was iced over but he still managed to bag six small carp!

04-03-04 ~ Catch Reports
The following catches were reported at the February meeting.
John Stanier informed the meeting that he had taken a fantastic pike at Rudyard Lake on legered mackerel dead bait. John started his session at around 7am and after a lack of action decided to call it a day at 11am. After retrieving and packing up his first rod, he then reeled in his second rod which had been cast into the margin about 12 feet from the bank. On reeling in, there was a massive thump and the rod arched over - At first John thought hed hit a big snag, but then the snag tore off down the margin and he realised it was a good fish! After a brief tussle John finally netted the fish, and with the help of a nearby witness, weighed it at 27lb 4oz a cracking result.
Another fine pike of 26lb 2oz was taken at Rudyard a couple of weeks ago, which, on the back of the 4lb plus perch taken late last year, proves the venue is on top form for predator anglers.
Pike are also showing on Redesmere, with one member reporting fish of 10lb 8oz and 13lb 8oz.
Two barbel over 9lb were reported on the Societys stretch of the Dove at Fauld.
Specimen carp catches have slowed during the colder weather, but catches of smaller carp on Ellenhall and Capesthorne Stock Pond have remained constant.
10-03-04 ~ More Pike at Rudyard!
Society member Kevin Hobson has had a number of successful sessions pike fishing on Rudyard Lake and has emailed a few photos for the website. The picture below left shows Kevin with a nice pike taken during January 2004, fishing a deadbait to a spot adjacent to the old boat house. The picture below right shows Kevins angling partner (also Kevin) with a fish taken last November from the same spot on a small Mepps.

10-03-04 ~ Fifty Years On!
SOTAS Trustee Liz Hays passed on a fifty year old day ticket for Redesmere, kindly lent by Chris Yeardsley. The ticket was issued on July 25th 1954 and shows the fishable areas in red. The bit that interested us was the position of the floating Island!

10-03-04 ~ Dynamite Dove!
SOTAS Fishery Manager Geoff Hayes reports several good sessions on the Dove of late; both at Scropton and Fauld. Over three sessions, Geoff and a guest took over forty fish from the Societys prolific stretches of the Dove; the vast majority were chub, all of which were over 3lb, with several over 4lb, topped by a cracking 5lb 2oz specimen. Geoff also reports brownies to 3lb.
08-04-04 ~ Top Pool pike-fest
With carp action being slow during the late part February, some of the regulars decided to have a go at the pike. Whilst only taking small Jacks, the action was non stop on small dead-baits and lures with countless fish between the 2lb-7lb mark being banked over several sessions.
Pictured are Chris Knapper (above) and Joe Staniforth (below) with Top Pool pike.

There is only one word to describe how Society waters are fishing at the moment; Fantastic! I have had reports of some absolutely stunning catches from nearly every water in the Societys portfolio. As such, Ive done a bit of a round up below to keep members up to date with current catches.

05-11-04 ~ Have you seen these fish!?
SOTAS Fisheries Manager, Geoff Hayes passed me these photos last night at the AGM of some cracking carp which were stocked into Redesmere back in 1997. As you can see from the pictures below they are all absolute stunners and will be easily recognisable on the bank. It always helps when we receive feedback on growth rates and fish stocks, so if you have seen any of these fish on the bank, or you are lucky enough to spot them in the future, please do let us know!
